Common Knee
Surgery Doesn't Work
(MSNBC News, 7/10/02)
Dr. Bruce Mosely of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston,
and team, compared an athroscopic surgical procedure that is
used to repair cartilage and clear debris from the knee joint
to a sham operation in which incisions were made, but no
surgery was actually performed. The researchers monitored the
study participants for 2 years and found that both groups of
subjects fared exactly the same and the surgery had no
significant effect on the patients' condition. |
