Can Heart
Disease be Found by Saying Ahh?
(HealthScoutNews, 9/28/02)
Caroline Attardo Genco, associate professor of Medicine at
Boston University School of Medicine, and team, infected mice
with bacteria that typically cause gum disease. The
researchers dissected the mice and found that the animals
infected with the strongest strains of bacteria were more
likely to have clogged arteries. These findings suggest that
bacteria from the gums may travel through the body and produce
inflammation in the cardiovascular system, thereby
contributing to artherosclerosis. |
