Cholesterol Lowering Beeswax is Promising
(Boston, Reuters Health, 9/17/02)
Virtually all waxy plant materials contain the long chain
alcohol molecule, policosanol. Now the technical director of
Hauser Inc. in Colorado, Rod Lenoble, has announced that he
and his colleagues have extracted a cholesterol- lowering
policosanol powder from beeswax. He says this substance is
similar to the sugar cane wax that Cuban researchers claim
lowers bad cholesterol (LDL) and raises HDL without harmful
side effects. These claims for policosanol's
cholesterol-lowering effect must undergo further independent
verification in order to gain general scientific acceptance.
