Aspirin May
Help Prevent Colon Cancer
(New York, Reuters Health, 4/8/02)
Dr. John A. Baron of Dartmouth Medical School in Lebanon,
New Hampshire reports that taking a baby aspirin daily
decreased the risk of polyp recurrence for patients who had
already had precancerous colon polyps removed. Aspirin may
protect the colon by reducing postaglandins which promote
tumor growth; however, the downside is that it can cause
side-effects, like stomach bleeding. |
