Arthritis of
Spine Often Not Diagnosed
(HealthScoutNews, 11/22/02)
When the Ankylosing Spondylitis Association of America
conducted a survey of more than 2,000 people who have
Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), a condition in which the spine
degenerates, the investigators found that 54% of those
surveyed were not properly diagnosed with AS until 5 years
after their initial symptoms appeared. Many of the respondents
reported that they had to visit multiple healthcare
professionals before receiving a correct diagnosis. |
