Air Pollution May Increase Risk of Stroke
 (New York, Reuters Health, 9/19/02)

When Dr Yun-Chui Hong of Inha University College of Medicine in Incheon and colleagues analyzed data collected by the Seoul Department of the Environment and the Korean Statistical Office for 1991 through 1997, the researchers found a significant link between high air pollution levels and deaths from ischemic strokes. The scientists speculate that contaminants in the air may induce stroke by causing the blood to thicken.
