Exposure to
Solvents Can Raise Your Risk of Parkinson's
(WebMD, 9/11/00)
Two separate studies support the conclusion that
environmental factors contribute to the development of
Parkinson's Disease. Gian Pezzoli, MD, director of the
Institute of Neuroscience at the Istituti Clinici di
Perfezionamento in Milan, and fellow researchers studied
nearly 1,000 Parkinson patients and linked exposure to
hydrocarbon solvents at work with an increased risk of
developing this degenerative disease; while Lorene Nelson, Phd,
a neuroepidemiologist at Stanford University in California,
found that exposure to toxic household chemicals, like
pesticides, also heightened the risk. |
